Nitrogen uptake and utilization in advanced fresh‐market red potato breeding lines

چکیده

Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) production on sandy soils requires added N. Only 40–60% of the applied N is acquired by crop. Increased use efficiency (NUE) and its components, utilization (NUtE) uptake (NUpE), could reduce fertilizer rates environmental losses. We compared in fresh-market red potato varieties, terms yield quality traits, examined potential mechanisms for that including uptake, utilization, increased root growth. grew selections from a breeding population commercial varieties under two rates: 101 202 kg ha−1. NUE, NUpE, NUtE low high phenotypes at tuber initiation skin metrics harvest. Values correlated with NUE NUpE Low-N conditions produced smaller tubers, while resulted primarily medium tubers. Nitrogen did not affect skinning redness but result slightly lighter color. Total mass 45 d after planting (DAP) final correlate measures across treatments. Larger roots only high-N treatment. Selection may reveal expose more stable representations genetic components phenotypes. While color were variable among N, within variety they exhibited year-to-year consistency.

Tillage and Nitrogen Placement Effects on Nutrient Uptake by Potato

Deep tillage of compacted soils can improve potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) tuber yield and quality if no other production factors are limiting. We hypothesized that within-row subsoiling and N placement would affect tuber yields and availability of plant nutrients. Potato (cv. Russet Burbank) was grown after winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) in 1989 and after dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) i...

Breeding designs for recombinant inbred advanced intercross lines.

Recombinant inbred lines derived from an advanced intercross, in which multiple generations of mating have increased the density of recombination breakpoints, are powerful tools for mapping the loci underlying complex traits. We investigated the effects of intercross breeding designs on the utility of such lines for mapping. The simplest design, random pair mating with each pair contributing ex...

Applied potato genetics and breeding: the way ahead for potato breeding

strategies based on genotypic selection. It is concerned with producing improved cultivars for clonal propagation by tubers, and not with ones for propagation by True Potato Seed (TPS). This is because SCRI breeders are sceptical about the place of TPS in the highly developed markets of Europe and North America, whilst acknowledging that there is much interest throughout the tropics in TPS as a...

Study of genetic diversity in bread wheat germplasm using nitrogen uptake and nitrogen use efficiency characteristics

In order to evaluate the traits related to nitrogen utilization and to identify the superior genotypes, 33 bread wheat landraces along three check cultivars of Chamran and Koohdasht (from Iran) and Gobustan (from the Republic of Azerbaijan) were studied in simple lattice statistical design with two replications under two treatments of non-usage and application of 200 kg/ha ammonium nitrate fert...
